Another good gathering (about 13 of us) for prayer and further studies on spiritual growth. We finished off what we had to say about family disciplines talking about the callings of spouses, parents and kids, moving on to public disciplines - hearing preaching, the sacraments, fellowship, the Lord's Day. I suppose I should have added worship too - be diligent in taking part in prayer, singing, etc. Perhaps I will next time. So it's all very practical at the moment. There was a good prayer time too, though some are understandably tired midweek.
The similar phrase 'Worldly Christianity' is one used by Bonhoeffer. It's J Gresham Machen that I want to line up most closely with. See his Christianity and culture here. Having done commentaries on Proverbs (Heavenly Wisdom) and Song of Songs (Heavenly Love), a matching title for Ecclesiastes would be Heavenly Worldliness. For my stance on worldliness, see 3 posts here.
