Two final contrasting items. First, my dad's Boy's Brigade handbook. My dad enjoyed his time in the youth movement. He played the bugle. Founded in 1884 it was one of several uniformed organisations for young people that flourished in more jingoistic times and still survivie to this day. The other item is an oddity. It is a signed publicity postcard for Roger de Courcey. De Courcey was a ventriloquist best known best known for performing with Nookie Bear. He was the winner of the 1976 New Faces tv talent competition grand final. My parents woud have sene him somewhere locally.
The similar phrase 'Worldly Christianity' is one used by Bonhoeffer. It's J Gresham Machen that I want to line up most closely with. See his Christianity and culture here. Having done commentaries on Proverbs (Heavenly Wisdom) and Song of Songs (Heavenly Love), a matching title for Ecclesiastes would be Heavenly Worldliness. For my stance on worldliness, see 3 posts here.
