The similar phrase 'Worldly Christianity' is one used by Bonhoeffer. It's J Gresham Machen that I want to line up most closely with. See his Christianity and culture here. Having done commentaries on Proverbs (Heavenly Wisdom) and Song of Songs (Heavenly Love), a matching title for Ecclesiastes would be Heavenly Worldliness. For my stance on worldliness, see 3 posts here.

Lord's Day August 16 2026
Numbers were not great yesterday even in the morning. New people around, though - a new Iranian, Ali, who is seeking the truth. At the end of the service a Nigerian arrived. He'd been invited by someone not there. Perhaps he'll come again. Even when the service was completely over another Iranian arrived and prayed. Sadly, our aylum seekers did nt return. Other Iranians were there. One told me I'd be missed because I am charismatic! He clarified that he meant having an ability to easily attract, please and inspire others, not amything theological. I preached on the famous and spectacular Ezekiel 37:1-14 and the forgotten and ordinary Ezekiel 37:15-28. We took communion together in the evening.

The church was pretty full yesterday morning as we had three baptisms. One was a young lady who had grown up in the church, another was a local young man who we have got to know this year and the thrid was an Iranian. It was a great time. We also had another four Iranians there for the first time and in the evening a local lady who came once before returned. We were down to 15 in the evening but it wa sa good day all told, all the more poignant as that may be the last time I baptise anyone. Over the years I must have baptised around 43 people here in Childs Hill, an average of one a year.
Lords' Day May 10 2026
It was a fairly typical day in Childs Hill - lots there in the morning with plenty missing and rather few in the evening. We looked at the end of Luke 20 back to back. How we need revival.

We had a visiting preacher on Sunday, morning and evening. Chola Mukanga from Bexley Heath had not been with us before and it was good to get to know him a little and to hear him preach from the opening verses of Colossians 3. As is usual with us these days, there were a good nmber in the morning but less on the evening, only fifteen. I led the services and spoke to the children and led communion in the evening but it was mostly sitting and listening for me and that is always a blessing, especially if the preacher is competent.
