The similar phrase 'Worldly Christianity' is one used by Bonhoeffer. It's J Gresham Machen that I want to line up most closely with. See his Christianity and culture here. Having done commentaries on Proverbs (Heavenly Wisdom) and Song of Songs (Heavenly Love), a matching title for Ecclesiastes would be Heavenly Worldliness. For my stance on worldliness, see 3 posts here.

10 Puritans Called Thomas

Who is the Puritan pictured above? Thomas _________? (See answer below).
I've just taken delivery of Joel Beeke and Randall Pederson's helpful guide - Meet The Puritans. It gives pen pictures of about 125 Divines plus another 11 each from Scotland and Holland with various other extras. Its main usefulness is in detailing what works have been reprinted in recent years. At nearly 900 pages it is quite a feat. Here for no particualr reason ecept to stir some interest is a list of 10 Puritans all called Thomas. The first five are important and fairly well known, the others less so.

1. Thomas Adams - see my blog
2. Thomas Brooks - pithy writer, author of 'Precious Remedies'
3. Thomas Goodwin - Independent Westminster divine, works 12 vols
4. Thomas Manton - works in 22 vols
5. Thomas Watson - author of Body of Divinity, etc
6. Thomas Cartwright - early Presbyterian, wrote on Colossians
7. Thomas Case - wrote on afflictions and heaven
8. Thomas Jacomb - commentary on Romans 8
