The similar phrase 'Worldly Christianity' is one used by Bonhoeffer. It's J Gresham Machen that I want to line up most closely with. See his Christianity and culture here. Having done commentaries on Proverbs (Heavenly Wisdom) and Song of Songs (Heavenly Love), a matching title for Ecclesiastes would be Heavenly Worldliness. For my stance on worldliness, see 3 posts here.

Lord's Day July 27 2025

Middlemists 1, 2, 4 and 5

Last Lord's Day was a little different in that not only did we have a visiting preacher but I was there to hear him preach. Ian Middlemist is the pastor of Hill Park Baptist Church in Haverford West, Pembrokeshire, and was at one time my assitant past (15 and more years ago). It was good to have him back and to have some of his family with us. Ian preached from Luke on the widow's mite ad from Revelation 15. We had decent sized congregations both times. The local young lady who has started to come to us was there again whih is good. Also an Iranian fresh in from Iran. Unlike any other Iranian I have met so far he was baptised in Iran and came to the two services. His English is very limited but he is adept with google translate. He was one of seven Iranians there yesterday. After the evening service I got talking to three men from the nearby hotel for refugees, one from Sudan and two from Yemen. These men made no Christian profession. What days we live in.
