The similar phrase 'Worldly Christianity' is one used by Bonhoeffer. It's J Gresham Machen that I want to line up most closely with. See his Christianity and culture here. Having done commentaries on Proverbs (Heavenly Wisdom) and Song of Songs (Heavenly Love), a matching title for Ecclesiastes would be Heavenly Worldliness. For my stance on worldliness, see 3 posts here.

10 Miracles in the Book of Jonah

1. 1:4 Then the LORD sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up.
2. 1:7 Then the sailors said to each other, "Come, let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity." They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah.
3. 1:15 Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm.
4. 1:17a Now the LORD provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah,
5. 1:17b and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
6. 2:10 And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
7. 3:10 When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened.
8. 4:6  Then the LORD God provided a leafy plant and made it grow up over Jonah to give shade for his head to ease his discomfort, and Jonah was very happy about the plant.
9. 4:7 But at dawn the next day God provided a worm, which chewed the plant so that it withered.
10: 4:8 When the sun rose, God provided a scorching east wind, and the sun blazed on Jonah's head so that he grew faint. He wanted to die, and said, "It would be better for me to die than to live."

Lord's Day May 25 2014

Great day yesterday. My son, Rhodri, was preaching morning and evening. I have only heard him once or twice before so it was encouraging to hear him preach so well. He took us to Jonah 3 in the morning and in the evening to Mark 3 and 4. It was particularly nice to hear firstly, secondly and thirdly, which I still think are very helpful words in a sermon. He starts in LTS this coming academic year and I'm sure that will be a blessing to him. I can see why some would be happy to have him as pastor now but that thorough theological preparation will be for the
best in the long run.

Lord's Day August 5 2012

Yesterday was a little different in that I was listening rather than preaching - a useful thing to do from time to time. (Pleased to sit next to my wife for a change but she was on Sunday School so it didn't last). LTS student Andrew Lolley was preaching on Jonah 1. I preached in the evening on the buried treasure adn the pearl of great price. We began the day at the communion table. I quoted Horatius Bonar who wrote that the communion should strengthen our faith, display the truth and nourish our souls. Two or three visitors in, all believers.
