The similar phrase 'Worldly Christianity' is one used by Bonhoeffer. It's J Gresham Machen that I want to line up most closely with. See his Christianity and culture here. Having done commentaries on Proverbs (Heavenly Wisdom) and Song of Songs (Heavenly Love), a matching title for Ecclesiastes would be Heavenly Worldliness. For my stance on worldliness, see 3 posts here.

Westminster Fellowship

It was good to join the men at the Westminster Fellowship on Monday to listen to Neil Evans from Porth on the subject of worship. He very helpfully spoke about the present situation then set out the calssic Reformed positon but in modern dress and with his own emphases. He helpfully exposed the way laudable but secondary motivations (such as the desire to evangelise) dictate worship. He expressed dissatisfaction with the common attitude that says that we agree on the principles but then is totally pragmatic in practice. The whole area is very difficult nevertheless and it was good to hear the paper and then to discuss with the 20 or 30 minsiters gathered on this ocassion. Next month we have Professor Stuart Burgess with us.
The basic paper can be found here.
