The similar phrase 'Worldly Christianity' is one used by Bonhoeffer. It's J Gresham Machen that I want to line up most closely with. See his Christianity and culture here. Having done commentaries on Proverbs (Heavenly Wisdom) and Song of Songs (Heavenly Love), a matching title for Ecclesiastes would be Heavenly Worldliness. For my stance on worldliness, see 3 posts here.

Day Off Week 40 2024

More like the usual day off pattern on Tuesday, although early on I had to be at the doctor's for a blood test. When I came back I went to my study in the chapel and threw away another pile of sermons. This time it was handwritten ones and that was hard. During the day I read, had a coffee and looked at today's Times (as it had an obituary for Kris Kristofferson). I also tried to make prgress on this project I have to complete in the month or two. In the evening we watched the first episode of Ludwig with David Mitchell and enjoyed it mostly. Then the itv news and sleep.

Day Off Week 4 2024

After a funny old start to the year, I'm trying to get back into a routine so I took the day off on Tuesday in my ususal manner, as best I could. I had an annual check up at the doctor's to start the day and then I spent some time blogging and writing in connection with various projects I am currently working on. I also spent time reading Matthew Roberts' very worthwhile book Pride whcih we are due to discuss next Monday at the Pastors Academy. In the evening I watched some TV. Fool me once is a flawed Harlan Coben thing with a crazy plot but it kept us watching.

Day Off Week 13 2021

Today was filled with all sorts of things. First thing, I had to contact the local GP to talk to the nurse and the doctor. They each 'phoned back later. In some ways telephone appointments work better. Nothing to worry about medically. I began reading the book Why the Dutch are different which I bought a while ago. There was also lots of TV - an Italian detective drama I have started to work through, the latest University Challenge which I was unable to listen to on Monday night as I had a meeting. Then there was a superb documentary on Jackie Charlton Finding Jack Charlton (see here for a while). Many things stood out including the way the two talent brother seems to have so far outshone his five talent brother. Anyway, good busy day.
