The similar phrase 'Worldly Christianity' is one used by Bonhoeffer. It's J Gresham Machen that I want to line up most closely with. See his Christianity and culture here. Having done commentaries on Proverbs (Heavenly Wisdom) and Song of Songs (Heavenly Love), a matching title for Ecclesiastes would be Heavenly Worldliness. Novelists 2 Defoe

Daniel Defoe 1660-1731 was an English novelist, pamphleteer, and journalist, best known for his novels Robinson Crusoe and Moll Flanders. A nonconformist, he certainly understood Christian conversion even if he hadn't experienced it for himself. His novels were written in the closing years of his life. He is buried in Bunhill Fields. He also wrote Journal of the plague year.

Robinson Crusoe


Nice programme on Radio 4 today about the sixties children's TV series Robinson Crusoe. Brought back a lot of memories and raised a few more with references to "Tom Tom" and "White horses", etc.
