The similar phrase 'Worldly Christianity' is one used by Bonhoeffer. It's J Gresham Machen that I want to line up most closely with. See his Christianity and culture here. Having done commentaries on Proverbs (Heavenly Wisdom) and Song of Songs (Heavenly Love), a matching title for Ecclesiastes would be Heavenly Worldliness. For my stance on worldliness, see 3 posts here.

Kate Rusby Christmas Guildford 2018

Great to be in Guildford last night for another Kate Rusby Christmas. Kate and  her five man band supplemented by a five piece brass band were very much on form. This is the first concert in this year's tour. I didn't feel quite as Christmassy as last year when I caught her at the Barbican. It was the same formula as has been used for 16 years now I think it is but with enough variety (a Moog synthesiser, more of the brass, a nodding Ruby the reindeer) to keep it lively. Kate was  as chatty as ever though not quite clear on the set list order. There are now four albums of material to draw on and so we only scratched the surface. As usual, there were three versions of While Shepherds, Hark Hark, Deck the Halls, Let it snow, Hark the Herald to Bilberry, Sunny bank, Cornish Wassail, Little Town of Bethlehem, Paradise, Santa won't bring me a banjo (why not use the banjo for that song, heh?), the Frost is all over, etc, plus an instrumental set from the boys. A young lady called Serena was there for her 67th time we were told. She let slip that today is Kate's birthday. Happy birthday!
