With the death of Claude Stanley Choules in Perth, Australia, at the age of 110, it seems that the last known combat veteran of the First World War has died. An interesting statistic is being bandied about - that this man was the last known survivor of "the more than 70 million" military personnel mobilised globally during the First World War. My grandfather William Brady (above) was one of the 70 million who fought. I believe he wa at the Somme.
The similar phrase 'Worldly Christianity' is one used by Bonhoeffer. It's J Gresham Machen that I want to line up most closely with. See his Christianity and culture here. Having done commentaries on Proverbs (Heavenly Wisdom) and Song of Songs (Heavenly Love), a matching title for Ecclesiastes would be Heavenly Worldliness. For my stance on worldliness, see 3 posts here.
