Truth is I just hadn't really thought it through but if woken from sleep and asked if pineapples grew on trees I would have said yes. I learned in Tagaytay the other day that is not the case. Now I know.More here.

They are bromeliads.
You can often get bromeliads as houseplants (and in fact it is possible to grow pineapple tops as a houseplant...)
I like that word Alan - Bromeliad. (It sounds a bit Welsh).
