Ten of us gathered on Wednesday and it was good to be back in the parlour for our midweek meeting. We looked at 2 Timothy 4:6-8. This is a poignant passage in many ways as Paul is thinking of his death. I was a little slow to see how some might react to such material but I think that as preachers we are often going to be touching on issues of life and death. We had a vast number of items for prayer and did our best to make a dent in the list.
The similar phrase 'Worldly Christianity' is one used by Bonhoeffer. It's J Gresham Machen that I want to line up most closely with. See his Christianity and culture here. Having done commentaries on Proverbs (Heavenly Wisdom) and Song of Songs (Heavenly Love), a matching title for Ecclesiastes would be Heavenly Worldliness. For my stance on worldliness, see 3 posts here.
