I was in the Evangelical Library recently when I spotted a copy of T C Hammond's commentary on the set of 100 texts used by Irish Church Missions in Bible clubs for children. Although designed for use amongst Roman Catholic children, they are suitable for teaching all children (and adults for that matter) basic gospel truths. I looked on t'internet for a list of the texts and found them here. Thank you Timothy Davis. T C Hammond's biography (1994 Banner of Truth) is well worth reading. See here.
These are the first ten.
1. Romans 3:23
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
2. John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
3. Matthew 11:28-30
Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
4. John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
5. 1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
6. 1 Timothy 2:5,6
For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time …
7. Luke 11:13
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!
8. John 5:39
You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.
9. Mark 10:13,14
Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.”
10. Matthew 4:10
Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, “You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.”
