Midweek Meeting November 27 2024
A typical six or seven of us gathered on Wednesday, with one or two online, to hear the Word and pray. We looked at the heart of Romans 7 and then prayed about al sorts of things, including the bill before Parliament over assisted dying.
Westminster Conference Next Week
The two day Westminster Conference will be on next week. I will be chairing the first session and speaking at the second one. Do join us if you can. We are in a new venue this year.

On my weekly walk I see these three trees regularly. I was surprised to see today
how quicky the leaves had all removed. Only two weeks between the pictures!
Day Off Week 48 2024
As I have remarked in the past even days off require organisation and yesterday could have been a better day for that. Anyway, I was up early enough and out to get a walk in and then a coffee at Kenwood House. Back here I watched the latest (nailbiting) University Challenge whoch I hadn't got to watch Monday. Through the day I read more of this Christmas detective novel I have mentioned, which is okay but I'm finding it difficult to remember who is who (not a problem if acted). In the evening, I watched the second episode of the current Wolf Hall. Brilliant as ever. Also got rid of a few more books at a charity shop, an ongoing task here.
Evangelical Library Lunch Time Zoom Lecture Robert Strivens
It was good to zoom in once again for a lunch time lecture in connection with the Evangelical Library. Thsi time round it was Dr Robert Strivens on Calvinistic Baptist Colleges in Wales in the 19th century. Being a Calvinistic Welsh Baptist I was obviously drawn but it was interesting anyway. Robert helpfully explained the origins, as far as possible, of the three colleges (Abergavenny which moved to Pontypool to Cardiff, Haverford West which moved to Aberystwyth and Llangollen whoch moved to Bangor). Well worth hearing when it appears on our YouTube channel.
Lord's Day November 24 2024
I was a little bit discouraged yesterday with so many people missing but I need to get things in perspective. Although we were very few in the evening, there were 14 and although many were missing in the morning we must have been around 40. It is the inconsistency of the attendance that most discourages. I carried on with my series, preaching on prayer from Ephesians 1:15-19 in the morning and in the evening 2 Chronicles 9:1-12 on the Queen of Sheba.
JAFS Again
I should have mentioned well before now an essay in the latest Journal of Andrew Fuller Studies (Number 8; Number 9 is overdue). This is the article A resurgence of Benjamin Beddome studies: A bibliographic essay by Yuta Seki. It is very thorough and very helpful. It refers, of course, to my Beddome blog and we are glad for such publicity. (NB also articles on the Duttons and John Fawcett).
Wedding in Cardiff with all the family
It was a joy last Thursday to be at the wedding of Sam and Marni. Unusually all 19 of us Bradys had been kindly invited to the wedding, which started in Minster Evangelical Church and spent most of the day in Pencoed House, an excellent venue where we were well catered for food and entertainment wise. Four Bradys took part (my second son married them, my daughter-in-law was a bridesmaid, two grand daughters were flower girls). Sam and Marni are members of the same church in Cardiff (as is my third son and his wife - Dewi and Sama are both deacons) but their roots are on opposite sides of the world in that Sam's parents are originally from Hong Kong and Marni's live in Iowa, USA. Sam is a GP and Marni works at Bryntirion for Union. They are a great couple.

Lord's Day November 17 2024 Waterford House, Strood
Last Lord's Day I was preaching in Waterford House Evangelical Church, Strood, Kent, for their anniversary. It was avery good day. I preached from the first part of Ezekiel 37 in the morning and in the evening on Philippians 4:6, 7 on prayer. This was followed by communion led by an elder and between the two services we had lunch together and I spoke (not very well) about my trip to Kenya earlier this year. I know the pastor Adrian Tribe mainly becasue we both served on the LIP committee for many years. It was nice to have time with himand his wife Andrea. The previous pastor, Norman Hopkins, is still in membership. I now him mainly through the Evangelical Library. Also in membership these days are Bernard and Linda Lewis. Now retired from full time ministry Bernard was a fellow student at the seminary. It was good to spend a little time with them too. Great day.
