We had a good turn out for the last Sunday of the year in the morning but in the evening we were very low. If not for two visitors, whose church had decided not to have an evening service, we would have been even lower. I preached texts. I was surprised to discover I had never taken Revelation 3:20 as a text before. After suitable remarks I preached it evangelistically. The evening sermon was a recommendation of six new year resolutions (read, pray, be holy, etc).
The similar phrase 'Worldly Christianity' is one used by Bonhoeffer. It's J Gresham Machen that I want to line up most closely with. See his Christianity and culture here. Having done commentaries on Proverbs (Heavenly Wisdom) and Song of Songs (Heavenly Love), a matching title for Ecclesiastes would be Heavenly Worldliness. For my stance on worldliness, see 3 posts here.
